Supporting Sustainability in Southwest Michigan

We work with local businesses and institutions to advance climate leadership, social justice and the creation of a circular economy

Michigan’s Cornerstone of Sustainability

Michigan Sustainable Business Forum serves businesses and institutions in Southwest Michigan and northern Indiana through its Southwest Michigan Region and local satellite, Michigan’s Great Southwest Sustainable Business Forum.  MGSSBF was founded in 2010 to educate the business community on sustainability matters, later merging with West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum to create the largest regional organization for sustainability practitioners in the Midwest.

  • Creating a collaborative network of local professionals, businesses and institutions.
  • Educating local businesses, institutions and the community on ways to address climate change.
  • Promoting justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in local businesses and the community.
  • Advocating for improvements in recycling practice and infrastructure, and investment toward the creation of a circular economy.
  • Protecting Lake Michigan and the St. Joseph and Kalamazoo River watersheds.

Serving A Six-County Region

The Forum hosts events and facilitates programs in Allegan, Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph, Kalamazoo and Van Buren counties. Among these efforts, we are currently working to complete a regional sustainable materials management study in partnership with county governments, accelerate support for local companies on key issues such as food waste reduction, electric vehicle transition, and green stormwater infrastructure, support community sustainability planning, and support local access to state and federal sustainability initiatives and incentive programs.

Our work in Southwest Michigan is supported by a council of local members that serve as advisors and ambassadors.

Contact Membership Manager Carrie Veldman to learn how to become a local ambassador.
