Whether working to create a circular economy, improve recycling, reduce food loss and waste, promote climate leadership and water conservation, or other priorities, Michigan Sustainable Business Forum engagement and a growing body of academic and industry research demonstrates that sustainable business needs sustainable schools. Forum members have long highlighted education as a pressing need to influence workforce development, consumer behavior and community buy-in, with a consensus that systems change starts in Michigan’s schools and universities.
A Resource for Campuses, Educators and Researchers
Michigan colleges and universities are at the forefront of sustainability efforts, with dedicated personnel and strong support from the private sector driving progress. These institutions serve as beacons of innovation, showcasing how sustainability can be integrated into classrooms and curricula. The Forum currently has programming and resources to support
- Campus sustainability coordinators at universities and colleges through peer learning, resource development, and continuing education.
- Resources and technical assistance for facility managers, food service directors, administrators and business managers for energy efficiency, sustainable food service, food waste prevention, recycling or other sustainability needs.
- Participatory research through collaboration on grant-funded projects or ad hoc engagement, and dissemination of research findings through publications, media, conferences, membership meetings and other events.
- K to college instructors seeking guest speakers, tours, class projects and access to community partners.

Join Our Community of Practice
The Michigan Campus Sustainability Collective is a user group working to elevate and promote sustainability practices on the state’s college and university campuses, and to celebrate and encourage its inclusion in curriculum. A regional affiliate of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, the collaborative welcomes participation from campus sustainability directors and faculty or students serving in a sustainability role.
