GreenHome Institute is a nonprofit organization that empowers people to make healthier and more sustainable choices in the renovation and construction of the places we live.

The green movement has brought sustainability into the mainstream. Consumers & professionals have more information about the implications of their choices than ever before. Unfortunately, it can be hard to separate the good from the bad. Design, build, and remodeling companies can claim that their projects are green without proof, and many do. Even if you’re paying close attention, trying to do the right thing can feel like guesswork. Fortunately, you don’t need to guess when it comes to the most personal investments, our homes.

GreenHome Institute has helped over 15,000 professionals and homeowner’s make the most sustainable choices in their new home design and new construction, remodels, additions, rehabs and weatherization projects across a broad spectrum of single / multi family and mixed use mid-rise residential living spaces. They have certified over 6,000 green homes and continue to educate, train, test, inspect and verify to ensure better homes for everyone.

History 
GreenHome Institute was started by President & Founder Michael Holcomb and community leaders Guy Bazzani, Green Buildings + Design and Gayle DeBruyn, Assistant Professor and Chief Sustainability Officer for Kendall College of Art and Design in 2000. The organization was awarded grants for green building education program delivered through out Michigan and in 2005 became one Michigan Energy Demonstration Centers.  In 2008 the Wege Foundation funded their Executive Director position with a $33,850 seed grant to jump start LEED for Homes. Since then they have trained over 10,000 professionals in the Midwest.
