Angel Squalls, Program Manager, Community Economic Development Association of Michigan

Angel Squalls is a Program Manager with the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM) for the MI Healthy Climate Fellows program, an initiative of the Michigan Dept. of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, Office of Climate and Energy.

Squalls is a community focused leader, who is dedicated to advancing community centered climate and conservation initiatives across the state. In her current role, she oversees a statewide fellows program, including the Upper Peninsula, in which fellows serve to advance the MI Healthy Climate Plan’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Squalls has successfully placed over 70 MHC Fellows at almost 70 organizations including: non-profit, tribal government, state agency, local government and universities since 2024 adding vital capacity to achieve these ambitious goals.

Outside of her formal roles, she remains deeply engaged in community service and leadership. Squalls is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and serves on multiple committees including: Enhance our Environment where she supports tree planting, recycling and environmental education efforts; International award winning Youth Leadership Institute in which she helps cultivate leadership skills in youth, and many more. Squalls enjoys participating in career fairs in which she promotes the “Black Faces in Green Spaces: The Journeys of Black Professionals in Green Careers” a career resource guide, AmeriCorps and fellowships as a career pathway to youth. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and reading books.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. historically stated “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve”. Squalls leads with a heart of service to others and to our earth as we only have one.
