Event Date: 05/20/2025

Event Time: 10:00 am

Venue: Webinar - Zoom

Organizer: Michigan Sustainable Business Forum & Detroit Port Authority

What will it take to decarbonize Michigan’s largest inland port? Join Michigan Sustainable Business Forum (MiSBF) and the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority (DWCPA) for a webinar to learn the inspiring story, achievements, and future plans behind the Port’s decarbonization and air quality improvement initiatives.

DWCPA represents a major gateway for goods, especially bulk cargo like steel, ore, and cement, all which require large ships, heavy equipment, and lots of trucks. As one of the most significant industrial sites in the state, the Port is pioneering a multi-stakeholder strategy to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 and improve air quality for surrounding communities.

Our session will cover:

  • The role ports play in addressing the climate crisis and improving air quality
  • Specific emissions-reducing initiatives including the deployment of biodiesel, hydrogen fuel cell technology, and electric equipment and vehicles.
  • How DWCPA is collaborating with industry, local and state agencies, civil society organizations, and communities to achieve their goals.

Why attend?

  • Engage directly with the leaders driving this transformation
  • Gain insights into practical solutions for decarbonizing Michigan’s logistics centers
  • Learn how to stay involved, align efforts, and unlock sustainability opportunities within your own sector.

Speakers Include:

  • Taylor Mitchell, Sustainability Manager, Detroit Wayne County Port Authority
  • Mark Schrupp, Executive Director, Detroit Wayne County Port Authority
  • Daniel Schoonmaker, Executive Director, MiSBF
