Introducing J Allen Heise: MiSBF Sustainability Associate
August 27, 2025
We are delighted to welcome J Allen Heise to the Michigan Sustainable Business Forum as our newest Sustainability Associate. A conservation biologist, J brings a unique perspective from his experiences in field research, manufacturing, hospitality, and materials management to the forum’s work.
Most recently, J’s work with the Ionia Conservation District brought in funding to expand recycling capacity significantly for Ionia County. He’ll build on this experience to work with businesses and Materials Management Planning Committees across Michigan to support food waste diversion and reduce methane emissions from landfills, in line with the Michigan Food Waste Roadmap and the goal to reduce food waste and loss by 50 percent.
J especially looks forward to his role as a connector among sustainability leaders in the state, ensuring they have the resources and relationships they need to bring about change.
“This position has been a goal for a long time. I love connecting people, knowing exactly who needs to talk to who. It’s my shot to make the world a better, healthier place.”
J’s background includes a Master’s degree in Terrestrial and Conservation Biology from Grand Valley State University as well as professional roles in hospitality, environmental health and safety, and materials management.
We are excited to have J on our team and see what connections and innovations he sparks to advance sustainable business practices in Michigan.
