December 18, 2024
We are excited to welcome Abby Simpson as the Good Food Fellow at the Michigan Sustainable Business Forum (MiSBF), a role proudly supported by the MI Healthy Climate Corps. With over five years of experience in advocacy, education, and community engagement, Abby is passionate about connecting communities and advancing sustainability across Michigan.
As a Good Food Fellow, Abby plays a key role in advancing the Michigan Food System Waste Reduction Roadmap. Her work includes conducting in-depth research, providing technical assistance, and facilitating meaningful interventions with stakeholders and community members. Abby’s dedication to improving food systems and promoting sustainability reflects her commitment to creating impactful change across the state.
Abby’s professional journey showcases her versatility and leadership as a climate champion. She has collaborated with the Sierra Club to create environmental research articles, educating communities about critical sustainability issues. At the Michigan League of Conservation Voters, she spearheaded community outreach and voter engagement efforts, advocating for Proposal 2 and the Inflation Reduction Act. As an election specialist for Kalamazoo County Government, Abby made history by implementing Michigan’s first nine-day early voting process for state and federal elections.
Her academic background further underscores her passion for sustainability and political action. Abby earned a Bachelor of Arts from Western Michigan University (WMU), double majoring in Environmental Sustainability & Studies and Political Science. While at WMU, she advanced sustainability initiatives on campus, such as composting dining hall food waste and supporting the university’s climate action plan. Abby’s reflective piece, “Nature: The Natural Antidote,” was featured in WMU’s literary journal The Laureate, and she received the AMPLIFY Environmental Policy Scholarship for her research on green business solutions to combat the climate crisis.
A Southwest Michigan native, Abby enjoys exploring local businesses, scenic nature preserves, and health and wellness facilities. She also has a green thumb and spends her summers gardening and connecting with the environment.
We are thrilled to have Abby on the MiSBF team and look forward to seeing her dedication to sustainability, food systems innovation, and community engagement come to life. Welcome to the team, Abby!
