Chicago Regional Food System Fund Supports Fair Food Project

August 23, 2024

Michigan Sustainable Business Forum has received a $25,000 grant to raise awareness among business leaders and the general community about the critical role of migrant farmworkers in Michigan and West Michigan’s food systems, as well as their vulnerability to abuse and exploitation. This initiative is part of a collaboration with Migrant Legal Aid.

The grant will fund events, presentations, and other engagement activities in support of the Michigan Fair Food Project, which collaborates with food producers, retailers, and employers to leverage purchasing power for the protection and benefit of farm workers.

This was the only Michigan project selected in the fund’s “Evolve the Food System” round, which awarded over $2 million to 23 organizations. These organizations aim to transition Chicago’s food system away from extractive, commercial agriculture that benefits a small group of corporations and stakeholders and towards cooperative models that promote sustainability for both land and livelihoods.

About Chicago Regional Food System Fund: Established during the early months of the COVID-19 crisis, the Chicago Region Food System Fund focuses on building resilience within the local food system, covering an area approximately 200 miles from Chicago.
