Doubling Food Donation by 2030: Understanding Michigan’s Food Donation Tax Credit (HB 5166)
Join Michigan Sustainable Business Forum for a webinar exploring Michigan’s proposed food donation tax credit and how it could strengthen the state’s food recovery system while reducing food waste and hunger.
This session will examine how tax incentives can support food businesses, farms, and other potential donors in expanding donation efforts, while also considering the operational realities faced by food rescue organizations and receiving partners. Speakers will share insights on implementation challenges, policy design, and the broader legal and policy landscape surrounding food donation incentives.
The conversation will also explore how policies like HB 5166 can work alongside other strategies, including interagency collaboration and system coordination, to increase food recovery while strengthening the capacity of donors, rescue organizations, and food access partners. Throughout the discussion, speakers will highlight the importance of food quality, client dignity, and community impact in designing effective food recovery systems.
Speakers:
- Sarah DiPasquale, Chief Program Officer, Sharing Excess
- April S. Love, Clinical Instructor, Food Law and Policy Clinic
- Daniel Schoonmaker, Executive Director, Michigan Sustainable Business Forum
