Hispanic Small Business Entrepreneur: Climate Action in Hispanic Communities – Alondra’s Candle Co.
September 13, 2025
Sustainability Associate Hanna De La Vega Sanchez recently sat down with Alondra Leal as part of the Forum’s monthly Spanish-language sustainability series on La Ponderosa Radio in Grand Rapids. (Una versión en español de esta publicación está disponible aquí).
For Alondra Leal, founder of Alondra’s Candle Co., sustainability is more than a value, it’s the foundation of her business. Every product reflects her commitment to clean living, cultural pride, and environmental responsibility.
From refillable car diffusers and reusable candle vessels to non-toxic, phthalate-free ingredients, Alondra integrates sustainability into every step. “Each product is designed to be safe, clean, and responsible for families and the planet,” she explained.
Hanna De la Vega of the Michigan Sustainable Business Forum (MiSBF) noted that federal programs like the Inflation Reduction Act are helping small businesses adopt eco-friendly practices while reducing emissions and strengthening local economies.
For Alondra, the mission goes beyond products. She sees her candles as a way to promote family health and community well-being. “As consumers, our choices matter. Every time you support a sustainable business, you’re investing in a cleaner, healthier future,” she said.
Reflecting on her journey as a Hispanic entrepreneur, Alondra acknowledged the challenges of balancing growth with sustainability but stressed the importance of family and community support. With MiSBF’s guidance, she believes more Hispanic-owned businesses can access resources and partnerships that amplify their sustainability impact.
The conversation closed with a reminder: consumer choices shape markets. Supporting businesses like Alondra’s Candle Co. builds healthier lifestyles, stronger communities, and a more sustainable future.
