Safe and Sustainable Foodware: A Summit for the Great Lakes Region
A Summit for the Great Lakes Region
June 4, 2025
University of Illinois Chicago Student Center East
750 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60607
Single-use foodware and food service packaging contribute significantly to municipal solid waste and PFAS contamination in the food system, compost facilities, and the environment. Funded through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) and Michigan Sustainable Business Forum (MiSBF) are partnering with national and regional stakeholders to lead the first multi-state awareness and educational campaign for safe and sustainable food service products in the Great Lakes Region.
This Summit will present initial findings, spotlight experts across the food system, and connect attendees with evidence-based knowledge. Special emphasis will be on identifying best practices, practical strategies, and procurement solutions to support foodservice purchasers in transition to certified-compostable and reusable foodware.
