MiSBF Webinar Series: Climate Smart Healthcare
Join Michigan Sustainable Business Forum and Michigan Clinicians for Climate Action as we explore efforts to decarbonize the health sector in Michigan. Climate change is increasingly affecting the health of individuals and our communities and the ability of the U.S. healthcare system to effectively respond to increases in extreme climate-related events. Improving the carbon footprint of the health ecosystem can lower the 8.5% of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. for which it is responsible, while having significant health, social, and economic benefits.
Many of our clinics, hospitals, and health care systems serve as the cornerstone to ensuring the health and well being of people near and far. Our panel of experts will address the need to activate all parts of the health sector for sustainable change. Participants will learn about a voluntary healthcare pledge offered by the Department of Health and Human Services that encourages hospital systems to reduce emissions, improve resilience in the face of extreme weather events, and institute climate-smart health care.
Panelists will highlight the system changes needed for increased sustainability in the healthcare system with a focus on supply chain, the prioritization of equity within our healthcare system, and the biggest hurdles to success without compromising our standards of care.
