How Ukraine is Impacting Gas Markets, Encouraging Decarbonization
Michigan Sustainable Business Forum will host an online forum on Thursday, June 2 at 11 am discussing how the ongoing Ukraine conflict is impacting natural gas markets and local and international efforts to decarbonize the economy.
In the months since Russia invaded Ukraine, a logistics hub for global energy, natural gas prices have soared to 14-year highs. Meanwhile, the war has led to nations and corporations to evaluate their reliance on fossil fuels from authoritarian nations, beginning with boycotts of Russian oil.
Panelists will provide an introduction to global gas markets and how the war is creating turbulence in Michigan, and what to expect moving forward. This will include an introduction to decarbonization strategies and how the war is highlighting the need to expand investments in domestic energy resources, especially renewable energy and energy efficiency, while improving potential returns on such investments.
Program will also introduce opportunities for public and private investment, such as operational improvements for local businesses and institutions, and new state and federal investments in climate solutions.
