Nominations Open for Michigan Sustainable Business of the Year Awards

Michigan Sustainable Business Forum is now accepting nominations for its signature awards program to recognize the sustainability accomplishments of Michigan businesses and institutions, and the lifetime accomplishments of the sustainability professionals that lead them. On Wednesday, November 4 at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, Triple Bottom Line Bash 2026 will present the Michigan Sustainable Business of the Year Awards and Michigan Sustainable Business Hall of Fame. 

The Forum’s signature event is Michigan’s premiere celebration of sustainability and sustainable business, each year welcoming 350 to 400 to business and community leaders to recognize their peers. The Michigan Sustainable Business of the Year Awards is open to any business with substantial operations in Michigan, with categories and recognition opportunities that reflect the diversity of industries, communities, and scale of organizations that are driving sustainability across the state.

• The Large Company category (Sustainable Business of the Year) recognizes businesses with more than $500 million in sales that have operations and sustainable business decision-makers in Michigan. Last year’s winner was Meijer.  A Mid-Sized Company award recognizing businesses with less than $500 million in sales may also be awarded as merited by nominations.  Last year’s winner was Supermercado México. Nominations for both will be accepted until Friday, September 18.
• The Small Business category (Sustainable Small Business of the Year) recognizes a self-identified small business.  Last year’s winner was Revolin Sports.  Nominations will be accepted until Friday, September 18. 
• The Solutions, Support and Services category (Sustainability Solution Provider of the Year) recognizes providers of sustainability solutions and companies in the services industry.  Last year’s winner was Edison Community Partners. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, September 11.
• The Community Organization of the Year category recognizes a Michigan-based nonprofit organization that is working to advance sustainability in its community through its services, or by demonstrating leadership in its operations.  Last year’s winner was Green Living Science.  Nominations will be accepted until Friday, September 11.
• The Campus Sustainability Program of the Year category recognizes institutions of higher education and K12 schools for their sustainability accomplishments. Last year’s winner was Michigan Dining. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, September 4.
• The Manufacturer of the Year Award is given to a mid-size manufacturer whose products or operations are substantially increasing sustainable business outcomes for Michigan industry and its supply chain.  Last year’s winner was Vantage Plastics. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, September 4.
• The Public Sector Award (Community of the Year) recognizes a local or regional government for its efforts to advance community sustainability and sustainable business practices in their community and operations. Last year’s winner was City of Ann Arbor. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, September 4. 
• The Recycler of the Year Award recognizes a business or public sector agency that provides recycling or composting services in Michigan. Last year’s winner was Unlimited Recycling. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, September 4. 

Nominations are now open for any organization that does business in Michigan through a brief form available here.  All submissions must include contact information for a representative of the organization, program or initiative being nominated. Self-nominations are accepted and encouraged.  The Forum selection committee will develop a shortlist and reach out to finalists for additional information.  Please note nomination closing dates for each category.

The Michigan Sustainable Business Hall of Fame celebrates professionals that have made significant and lasting contributions to sustainable business and sustainability in Michigan over the course of their career.  A lifetime achievement award, it recognizes impacts to local communities and industries, as well as internal company accomplishments that deserve wider recognition. The award is selected by committee through a closed process.
